Adobe Unveils Revolutionary Computational Photography App for iPhones

Adobe introduced Project Indigo, a camera app for iPhones built with help from Marc Levoy, the engineer behind the Pixel camera. Released via Adobe Labs, the app uses computational photography to deliver pro-level results without requiring an Adobe login.

Details:

• Project Indigo rapidly captures and blends multiple shots to reduce noise and boost dynamic range for a natural, SLR-style look. It works on iPhone 12 Pro and newer, with best results on iPhone 15 Pro or later

• The app offers manual controls for focus, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance. Adobe is also using it to test experimental features, like a button to remove reflections from images

• Plans include an Android version, portrait mode, and video recording, with Adobe calling this the start of a broader push toward a unified mobile camera and editing platform

A blog post on Project Indigo covers its image processing, photography basics, and computational techniques. Adobe aims it at both casual users and advanced photographers seeking quality and control.

Meta and Oakley Reveal Upcoming AI Smart Glasses

Meta teams up with Oakley to launch smart glasses starting at $399. The limited-edition HSTN model costs $499. Building on the success of Meta Ray-Bans, the eyewear captures 3K video and includes Meta AI, wrapped in Oakley’s signature athletic style.

Details:

• These IPX4-rated glasses offer 8 hours of use—double the previous model—and up to 48 hours with the charging case. They feature a camera, speakers, and mics for video, calls, and Meta AI features like translation and object recognition

• Available in five styles with various lens options, including transitions and prescriptions (extra cost). A $499 gold-accent limited edition launches July 11, with a full rollout in 15 countries later this summer

• This launch expands Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica (Ray-Ban, Oakley). After selling 2 million Meta Ray-Bans, the goal is 10 million smart glasses sold annually by 2026

With these performance-focused Oakley glasses, Meta enters the athletic wearables market. Wearables head Alex Himel calls it "our first step into the performance category," hinting at more to come.
