How to Create Consistent Character Variations from a Single Photo

Ideogram’s Character Consistency model lets you create unlimited, consistent variations of a single character from one reference image. Whether you want to design unique avatars, experiment with different styles, or maintain visual identity across multiple scenes, this process makes it simple and repeatable.

  1. Sign In to Ideogram

    Go to Ideogram and either create an account or log into your existing one.

  2. Open Character Feature

    From the dashboard, select Character from the left—this is where you’ll upload your reference image and control consistency settings.

  3. Upload Reference Photo

    Choose a high-quality, front-facing image. Make sure:

    • Lighting is even

    • Face is fully visible

    • Resolution is sharp

  4. Let the AI Mask Your Face

    Once uploaded, Ideogram will automatically detect and mask your face.

  5. Refine the Mask (Optional)

    If the AI misses details like hair edges, accessories, or facial outlines, open your picture and use the brush tool to:

    • Add missing areas

    • Erase unwanted parts of the mask

  6. Write Prompt or Use Templates
