Anthropic Briefly Banned OpenClaw’s Creator During Claude Test

Anthropic briefly suspended OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger’s Claude account for “suspicious activity,” then restored it after backlash, spotlighting rising friction over API pricing, testing rights, and control of open AI tooling.

Details:

  • Days earlier, Anthropic had moved OpenClaw off Claude subscriptions and onto API billing, saying agent loops, retries, and broad tool use create heavier compute loads than standard prompts

  • Steinberger rejected that logic, saying Anthropic added Cowork features like Dispatch before tightening usage rules, implying it copied popular ideas first, then restricted open-source versions

  • Though working at OpenAI, he said Claude is used for compatibility testing to avoid user issues. One company welcomed him; other sent legal threats, suggesting OpenAI is moving to limit Claude’s advantage

The quick reversal fixed the suspension, but the bigger story remains: open tools still depend on closed platforms that can rewrite the rules without warning.

Molotov Attack on Sam Altman Home Fuels AI Tensions Debate

A Molotov cocktail was thrown at Sam Altman’s home around 3:45–4:12 a.m., igniting the exterior gate before the suspect later threatened OpenAI HQ. No one was injured; police detained a 20-year-old soon after.

Details:

  • Police say the attacker fled after the device struck the house gate and sparked a small fire. Officers also responding to threats at OpenAI’s Mission Bay office recognized and detained the same 20-year-old suspect

  • OpenAI confirmed both the home attack and HQ threat, thanked SFPD for the rapid response, told staff there was no ongoing danger, and increased police/security presence around offices

  • Altman shared a family photo, admitting he underestimated the impact of words during AI fears. He defended safe, democratized AI, warned of economic disruption, and said violence must not influence future

The attack stands as a stark symbol of rising AI-era tensions: fear, policy, power, and public anger colliding in the real world, not just online.
