U.S. officials told Anthropic to block foreign nationals from using Fable 5 and Mythos 5, including some employees, so Anthropic disabled both models for every customer
The core concern was a possible jailbreak that could bypass safeguards and help find software flaws. Anthropic argued it was narrow, verbal, and not enough to recall the models
Reports also said officials feared Mythos may have reached a China-linked group. Anthropic said China was not raised in talks and it already bars use from inside China
