Apple is reportedly in early talks with Google to use Gemini AI in a revamped Siri, signaling a major shift in its AI strategy. Struggling to keep pace in generative AI, Apple is exploring external partnerships after setbacks in its own development efforts.

• Apple is in early talks with Google to bring Gemini AI into a redesigned Siri planned for next year. The move follows major delays and leadership reshuffles, as Apple also weighed partnerships with Anthropic and OpenAI after internal struggles

• The company is running a “bake-off” between its own models (“Linwood”) and outside tech (“Glenwood”). But its AI division is unstable, with chief Ruoming Pang leaving for Meta and several teammates departing or job-hunting

• Talks with Google remain exploratory, and any system would run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute instead of devices. CEO Tim Cook insists Apple must lead in AI, with the firm currently testing a trillion-parameter model for research

Midjourney to Strengthen Meta’s AI Image and Movie Gen Capabilities

Meta has announced a major partnership with AI image generation leader Midjourney, licensing its advanced image and video tech to boost Meta’s products and intensify competition with OpenAI and Google.

Details:

• Meta’s research teams will work with Midjourney to integrate its tech into future AI models, building on tools like Imagine for images and Movie Gen for video. The partnership reflects Meta’s “all-of-the-above” AI strategy

• Meta’s AI portfolio spans a $14B investment in Scale AI, the acquisition of Play AI, and $100M+ packages for top researchers. Zuckerberg has been hiring aggressively and even considered joining Musk’s $97B OpenAI bid

• Midjourney adds major value, known for its realistic style and $200M revenue in 2023 from $10–$120 subscriptions. The startup remains bootstrapped and independent. While Meta once explored buying it outright, this licensing deal keeps both firms autonomous

Both face lawsuits from Disney and Universal over AI training data, though courts have largely backed tech firms. The deal positions Meta against OpenAI’s Sora, Google’s Veo, and Black Forest Lab’s Flux.

How to Generate an Audio Overview from PDFs and Docs

Need a quicker way to digest long reports or articles? With Gemini’s Audio Overview, you can convert documents into spoken summaries in minutes and listen to them wherever you are.

1. Open Gemini App

   Launch the Gemini app on your device and tap the Plus (+) button in the Ask Gemini box.

2. Upload Document

   Tap Files and choose a document from your device or Google Docs. Supported formats include:

   • DOC / DOCX

   • PDF

   • RTF

   • TXT

3. Confirm Upload

   Make sure the file appears in the chat window so you know it’s been uploaded successfully.

4. Generate Audio Overview

   Tap Generate Audio Overview to begin. Processing may take a few minutes, but you’ll receive a notification when it’s ready — no need to keep the chat open.

5. Listen to Overview

   Once complete, tap Audio Overview to play the spoken summary of your document.

6. Saved Overviews

   Tap the Chats and Gems icon in the top-left corner of the screen to revisit your audio anytime.

7. Share or Download

   On the playback screen, tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and select:

   • Download to save the file

   • Share to send it directly
