Siri Gets Major AI Upgrade with Google Partnership Against OpenAI

Apple is making a bold move in the AI race with "World Knowledge Answers," an AI-powered search tool built into Siri. A direct challenge to OpenAI and Perplexity, it marks Apple’s biggest push into AI search and could reshape how users interact with information.

  • The system will serve as an "answer engine" within Siri, set for release in spring 2025 with iOS 26.4. It will deliver direct answers through large language models and handle text, images, video, and local points of interest with AI summarization

  • Apple is using Google’s Gemini models, moving away from its in-house approach. The design includes a planner, search, and summarizer. Google was chosen over Anthropic’s Claude, which carried a $1.5 billion yearly price tag

Google Photos Gets Veo 3 AI Video Generation Upgrade

Google Photos is getting a major AI upgrade with Veo 3, Google’s most advanced video model. The update adds image-to-video features for its 1.5+ billion users, bringing cutting-edge AI into a mainstream app.

Details:

  • Google Photos already let users generate short clips with Veo 2, offering six-second animations from photos. With Veo 3, video quality jumps higher, letting people animate old photos and create more lifelike memories

  • Veo 3 debuted at Google I/O in May and later appeared in the Gemini app for paid users, limited to three watermarked videos a day. Now it’s rolling out inside Google Photos, starting in the US

How to Build a Personalized AI Voice from Scratch in Hume

Creating a custom AI voice is easier than you think. With Hume, you can design a voice that matches your exact tone, style, or brand personality—all without needing technical skills. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the entire process.

  1. Create Hume Account

    Go to the Hume website and sign up for an account. Complete the registration.

  2. Open Voice Design

    From your dashboard, find and tap on the option labeled “Design a Custom Voice.”

  3. Microphone Permission

    When prompted, allow Hume to use your device’s microphone. This is required since the process involves verbal interaction.

  4. Enter Sample Sentence

    In the text field, type a short sentence you want your generated voice to say. This acts as the reference for generating your preview.

  5. Describe Voice Prompt

    In the “Voice prompt” box, provide details on how you want your custom voice to sound. For example, specify:

    • Tone: warm, friendly, confident, calm

    • Accent: American, British, Australian, neutral

    • Style: professional, casual, enthusiastic, soft-spoken

    If you leave this blank, Hume will generate a voice automatically based on your sample text.

  6. Generate Voice Samples

    Press “Generate Samples.” Hume will create several versions of the voice using your instructions.

  7. Review Samples

    Listen carefully to each sample. Focus on:

    • Clarity of pronunciation

    • Tone and mood

    • Speed and pacing

    • Overall naturalness and personality

  8. Generate More if Needed

    If none of the samples fit, return to the previous step and tap “Generate” again. You can repeat this process as many times as necessary until you find a suitable match.

  9. Name and Describe Voice

    Once you find the right sample:

    • Give your voice a unique name (e.g., “Calm Narrator” or “Energetic Coach”)

    • Add a short description highlighting its traits or intended use (e.g., “For training videos” or “For product demos”)

  10. Save Custom Voice

    Press “Save” to add your custom voice to your voice library.

  11. Test in Playground

    Open the playground tools to try out your custom voice in different scenarios:

    • Speech-to-Speech Playground: Speak into your microphone, and your input will be transformed into your custom voice.

    • Text-to-Speech Playground: Type text, and your custom voice will read it aloud.

  12. Experiment and Refine

    Run multiple tests with different phrases, tones, or styles. This ensures the custom voice performs consistently and meets your needs in real-world use cases.

Note: Try experimenting with shorter, simpler sentences when generating samples. Voices tend to sound clearer and more natural this way, and once you’re happy with the tone, you can test longer scripts in the playground.
