Apple Partners with Google on Billion Dollar Siri Upgrade Using Gemini

Apple is making a bold move to catch up in the AI race by partnering with its rival Google. The tech giant is preparing to pay Google around $1 billion annually to power its next-gen Siri with a custom version of the Gemini AI.
Details:
Apple will run a custom 1.2 trillion-parameter Gemini on its private servers to handle summaries and planning tasks - massive upgrade from the 150 billion-parameter powering Apple Intelligence. Despite this partnership, Apple will continue using in-house models for some Siri features
This comes after Apple scrambled to find the right AI partner, weighing options from OpenAI and Anthropic. The agreement is separate from both Apple's existing ChatGPT integration and plans to add Gemini features directly into Siri
CEO Tim Cook announced the enhanced Siri will launch next spring, with the door open for additional third-party AI integrations. However, Apple is simultaneously developing its own AI tech that could eventually replace Gemini, suggesting this partnership may be temporary
This partnership shows Apple’s practical strategy—using Google’s AI to stay competitive while building its own long-term independence.

Claude AI Helps Grieving Family Cut 195K Hospital Bill Down to 33K

A grieving family facing a $195,000 hospital bill for their loved one’s final four hours of care found an unexpected ally in AI. Their relative’s insurance had lapsed just two months before a fatal heart attack, leaving them with a crushing bill seemingly designed to exploit their grief.
Details:
The family first fought hospital administrators for transparency, demanding itemized details behind vague charges like "$70,000 for Cardiology." After obtaining billing codes, they fed them into Claude AI, which flagged irregularities. It found the hospital had billed for both full procedures and their parts
Claude also spotted improper coding between inpatient and emergency care and violations in ventilator billing on the same day. It even drafted legal correspondence and complaint letters, giving the family dispute power they never had before
When confronted, the hospital urged the grieving family to seek charity aid instead of fixing its inflated charges. But backed by AI-generated evidence, the family pressed on — and the bill dropped to 33,000, saving them over $160,000
This case exposes how hospitals exploit grieving families with deliberately opaque billing, counting on emotional distress and financial intimidation to prevent challenges.

How to Listen to Your Google Docs Instead of Reading Them

If reading long drafts makes your eyes glaze over, try listening instead. This tutorial walks you through Google Docs’ audio feature — from starting playback to changing voices and inserting an audio button your readers can use.
Open document
Start by opening the document you’d like to review in Google Docs. Make sure you’re on desktop, since this feature isn’t available on mobile yet.
Go to audio feature
From the top menu bar, go to Tools > Audio and select “Listen to this tab.” As soon as you tap, the default voice will begin reading your document aloud, starting from the very beginning.
Use floating audio toolbar
A small toolbar will appear at the bottom of your screen. From here, you can:
Pause or resume playback at any point
Scrub forward or backward through the audio
Adjust the playback speed (anywhere between 0.5x and 2x)
Change reading voice
In the same toolbar, press the three-dot “More options” button.
You’ll see a list of available voices, such as Narrator, Educator, Teacher, Persuader, Explainer, Coach, or Motivator.
Pick the one that best suits the tone you want for your document.
Insert audio button
From the toolbar, you also have the option to “Insert an audio button.” This adds a play button inside your Google Doc, allowing readers to listen to the content.
Customize audio button
After inserting it, hover over the button and tap the pencil icon. You can then edit its label, color, and size to match the style or purpose of your document.
Note: This feature is currently available in English and may not be available in all countries.
