Google Files Copyright Suit Against AI Data Supplier SerpApi
Google has officially filed a lawsuit against SerpApi, accusing the data extraction company of using deceptive tactics to harvest search results at an "astonishing scale" in direct violation of the Copyright Act.
Details:
The complaint alleges that SerpApi circumvented Google’s "SearchGuard" bot-blocker by disguising hundreds of millions of automated queries as human traffic to evade detection
Google argues that this scraping undermines its substantial investment in licensing fees for content like images and Knowledge Panels as SerpApi resells this protected data to AI tools
Building on a similar lawsuit filed by Reddit last October, Google is asking the court to order SerpApi to stop circumventing its security measures and to destroy the technology used to bypass them
