China Stops Meta From Buying AI Startup Manus For $2B
China just blocked Meta’s $2B Manus acquisition after a months-long probe. This is bigger than one deal. It shows how AI talent, ownership, and cross-border control are becoming serious geopolitical issues.
Details:
Manus was founded by Chinese engineers, moved its HQ to Singapore, and later became a major target for Meta’s AI agent strategy. Meta wanted to fold Manus technology directly into Meta AI
The deal is already messy. Around 100 Manus employees moved into Meta’s Singapore office, founders took executive roles, and some leaders are reportedly facing exit restrictions in China
China’s NDRC gave no detailed reason, but ordered both sides to unwind the transaction. Meta says the deal followed the law and expects a proper resolution
This shows where the AI industry is heading: the next AI race will not just be about models, chips, and talent. It will also be about who controls the companies behind them.

OpenAI May Build A Phone Where AI Agents Replace Apps
OpenAI may be working on a smartphone where AI agents replace traditional apps. Instead of tapping through separate apps, the phone could understand context and complete tasks across the device.
Details:
OpenAI could partner with MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Luxshare to develop the phone, its chip, and manufacturing. Specs may be finalized by late 2026 or early 2027
The phone may use AI agents instead of apps, giving OpenAI more control than it gets inside Apple or Google systems, where app permissions and features are limited
Kuo says the device could understand user context continuously, using small on-device models and cloud models for different tasks. Mass production may begin in 2028
OpenAI is also expected to announce its first hardware product in late 2026, possibly AI earbuds. But a phone would push OpenAI much deeper into daily consumer hardware.

How to Record and Summarize Any iPhone Call with AI
Most people know AI notetakers for Zoom calls, but you can also use them for regular iPhone calls. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to set up Granola for both outgoing and incoming calls.
Download Granola
Install Granola from the App Store and launch the app on your iPhone. This is where the setup begins.
Start Phone Setup
Tap the phone icon in the bottom-left corner to start connecting your number. This allows Granola to work with your regular phone calls.
Verify Number
Enter your phone number and follow the verification instructions shown in the app.
This may include:
entering the verification code
confirming your number
allowing required permissions
Make Outbound Call
To start a call with AI note-taking:
tap the phone button
choose a contact or type a phone number
place the call as normal
The call works like any regular iPhone call, but Granola listens in the background.
End Call
When the conversation is finished, hang up normally. You don’t need to do anything extra during or after the call.
Review AI Notes
Wait about a minute after hanging up. Granola will generate:
a summary of the conversation
action items
anything important worth remembering
Use It for Inbound Calls
For incoming calls, launch the app and create a fresh note before or during the call. It can still help with transcription, but for inbound calls it will capture your voice.
