China Launches First AI Supercomputer Satellite Into Orbit

China has launched the first dozen satellites in what will become a massive orbital AI supercomputer network, marking a significant leap in space-based computing technology and potentially changing how we process data from space.
Details:
China’s ADA Space, in collaboration with Zhijiang and Neijang, launched first 12 satellites of its planned 2,800-satellite “Three-Body Computing Constellation.” Each carries an AI model with 8 billion parameters, delivering 744 TOPS, for a total of 5 POPS across the cluster
These satellites use laser links for communication at up to 100Gbps and share 30TB of storage. By processing data onboard, they bypass the usual bottleneck—only about 10% of satellite data typically makes it to Earth
In addition to computing, the satellites are equipped with tools like X-ray polarization detectors and can generate 3D digital twin data. This supports uses from cosmic observation to emergency response, gaming, and tourism
China’s orbital supercomputer aims for 1,000 POPS, offering greener computing via solar power and efficient cooling. The US and Europe may follow as the space tech race grows.

Apple Rushing to Overhaul Struggling LLM Siri

Apple is urgently trying to fix its troubled Apple Intelligence rollout, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The project has stumbled due to leadership hesitation, a late market entry, and technical hurdles—pushing Apple to completely rebuild Siri from the ground up.
Details:
Apple’s AI struggles stem from early missteps. Craig Federighi delayed AI infrastructure investments due to unclear goals. Work on Apple Intelligence only began after ChatGPT’s 2022 release, and trying to bolt AI onto Siri caused ongoing issues
John Giannandrea, Apple’s AI lead, added to the problem. He had little internal sway, missed funding opportunities, and didn’t see the appeal of AI chatbots. Meanwhile, Apple’s marketing overpromised features like cross-app context that weren’t ready
Apple is curently rebuilding Siri from scratch. The Zurich team is developing LLM-based system using synthetic and real user data. They’re also exploring AI web search and potential deals with companies like Perplexity
With Giannandrea removed from Siri duties this spring, Apple is clearing the way for a fresh start. Retirement talks arose, but he stayed to keep his team and feels relieved Siri is no longer his issue.

Prompt:
A highly detailed, hyper-realistic photograph of a curious tabby cat peeking through a heart-shaped cutout in a white paper sheet. The cat's light beige and cream fur has soft, textured details, and its large, expressive green eyes reflect natural light, giving a lifelike appearance. The cat's small pink nose and tongue sticking out add a playful and innocent touch. The background remains blurred, focusing on the cat's face framed by the heart cutout, with realistic shading and fine fur textures. --ar 3:4 --stylize 0 --v 7
