DeepSeek released a paper on “Manifold-Constrained Hyper-Connections” (mHC), an architecture shift to train large models more efficiently, signaling a move toward engineering ingenuity over brute-force compute.

• Building on ResNet and ByteDance’s Hyper-Connections, mHC fixes the instability that often breaks large-scale training. It widens the model’s “thinking stream” for more parallel flow, while constraining mixing so signals don’t vanish

• Tests on 3B to 27B parameter models show better scaling and stronger benchmarks than standard approaches. Overhead stays low at ~6.7%, thanks to heavy infrastructure optimizations

• The paper was uploaded directly by CEO Liang Wenfeng, a move usually reserved for top-tier breakthroughs like R1. That’s fueling speculation mHC will power DeepSeek’s next major model, rumored for Spring Festival in mid-February
