Anthropic

Anthropic Brings Fable 5 Back With Tougher Safety Filters

After an 18-day pause, Anthropic’s Fable 5 is back. U.S. export controls are lifted, but the model returns with tighter filters, limited paid-plan availability, and deeper government checks before future launches.

Details:

  • The pause began after Amazon researchers bypassed Fable’s guardrails to surface software flaws. Anthropic says similar outputs came from other models too, so it wasn’t unique to Fable

  • Fable 5 is live on Claude ai, Claude Platform, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. Paid users receive up to 50% of weekly limits until July 7, then availability moves through usage credits

  • Anthropic says the updated classifier blocks the reported cyber technique in over 99% of cases. Risky prompts show a notice and route to Opus 4.8; some harmless coding may be flagged

Fable 5's return shows security is becoming as important as capability, with stronger safeguards shaping future AI.

Meta

Meta May Turn Spare AI Compute Into A Cloud Business

Meta may have found a second business hiding inside its AI spending: renting out spare data-center compute and model use. The report lifted shares around 9%-10%, as investors saw a fresh way to monetize its $182.9B infra investment.

Details:

  • The plan includes raw compute rentals and paid use of Meta-hosted models, including Muse Spark, giving developers another way to use Meta’s AI infrastructure

  • Zuckerberg said companies approach Meta almost weekly to buy AI models or spare compute, though Meta still expects most of that capacity to support its own internal AI work

  • SpaceX/xAI set the template by leasing Colossus capacity to Anthropic, Google and Reflection AI, showing how scarce AI chips and power can become a business

If Meta’s own models don’t dominate, compute rentals could turn its AI splurge into a hedge while demand keeps outrunning supply.
