Anthropic Will Train AI on Your Claude Chats Unless You Opt Out

Anthropic just dropped a major policy change that every Claude user needs to know about. The company will use your chat conversations and coding sessions to train their AI models—but there's a catch that could trip up a lot of users.

Details:

• Anthropic is rolling out fresh data policies across all consumer Claude plans and Claude Code. Once accepted, the company will train its AI models on your chats and store data for five years. Users must decide by September 28, but the popup makes it easy to agree without realizing

• The changes only affect new or resumed chats—old conversations stay private unless continued. Commercial accounts like Claude Gov are exempt. The issue is the popup: a big black "Accept" button dominates, while the training toggle sits hidden below, pre-set to "On"

• To stay private, you must toggle off "Allow the use of your chats and coding sessions to train and improve Anthropic AI models." This can be done in the popup or later in Settings > Privacy > Privacy Settings > "Help improve Claude"

The bottom line: this is an opt-out system disguised as a choice, and September 28th is your last chance to decide before the decision is made for you.
