Google Announces Breakthrough Algorithm That Could Transform Science

Google just made a major leap in quantum computing with its breakthrough algorithm, Quantum Echoes — a system that could finally make quantum power practical for real-world use in AI, science, and medicine.

Details:

  • Quantum Echoes runs on Google’s Willow quantum chip and is 13,000 times quicker than the most advanced classical algorithm running on supercomputers. It can generate entirely fresh data sets — a huge deal for AI fields like life sciences where reliable data is scarce

  • It’s also verifiable, meaning its results can be checked by other quantum computers or experiments. That verification is critical: as Google’s Tom O’Brien put it, “If I can’t prove the data is correct, how can I do anything with it?

  • Beyond AI, the algorithm could measure molecular structures, helping scientists discover drugs and materials. Google says this could transform material science and chemistry by revealing patterns impossible to detect before

This isn’t just a lab win — it’s a turning point for quantum computing. With Quantum Echoes, Google edges closer to turning theory into real-world innovation powered by qubits.

Find out why 100K+ engineers read The Code twice a week

Staying behind on tech trends can be a career killer.

But let’s face it, no one has hours to spare every week trying to stay updated.

That’s why over 100,000 engineers at companies like Google, Meta, and Apple read The Code twice a week.

Here’s why it works:

  • No fluff, just signal – Learn the most important tech news delivered in just two short emails.

  • Supercharge your skills – Get access to top research papers and resources that give you an edge in the industry.

  • See the future first – Discover what’s next before it hits the mainstream, so you can lead, not follow.

Meta Closes Legacy AI Research Teams as TBD Lab Takes Charge

Meta is overhauling its AI strategy once again, closing the chapter on legacy research teams and pivoting fully toward building superintelligence — one of its biggest internal shakeups since last year’s major AI push.

Details:

  • The company is reportedly cutting around 600 positions from its long-standing Fundamental AI Research unit (FAIR), as well as roles across its AI product and infrastructure divisions. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the changes

  • At the same time, Meta is expanding TBD Lab — a division dedicated to developing artificial general intelligence. CEO Alexandr Wang, who joined after Meta’s $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI, said many of FAIR’s projects will be folded into TBD Lab’s larger model runs

  • In an internal memo, Wang explained that smaller teams will make decisions quicker and have greater individual impact. Meta will let affected staff apply internally, but the goal is to cut friction and speed delivery

A defining moment for Meta’s AI journey. FAIR built its early breakthroughs, but TBD Lab leads the race toward superintelligence — fewer people, sharper focus, one goal: build the future first.

  1. Go to Claude

Open your browser and visit Claude. Sign in with your existing Anthropic account, or create another one.

  2. Navigate “Search and Tools” Section

On the left panel, tap on “Search and Tools”. This area allows you to integrate external apps and plugins that expand Claude’s abilities beyond text.

  3. Enable Canva Plugin

In the plugin list, enable Canva, connect your account if prompted, and grant permission. You’ll then see Canva under “Active Tools.”

  4. Prepare Source Material

Gather any file or content you want to visualize, such as:

    • Blog posts or newsletters

    • Product guides or sales decks

    • Meeting notes, reports, or summaries

Claude supports multiple file types (PDF, DOCX, TXT, etc.), so you can upload almost any written content.

  5. Upload Document

Use the upload button next to the chat bar. Drag and drop your document or select it from your device. Claude will scan the content.

  6. Ask Claude to Design

Type a clear, direct prompt explaining what you want. For example:

    • “Create a branded LinkedIn carousel from this file using Canva.”

    • “Design a clean infographic highlighting the top 5 takeaways.”

    • “Convert this meeting summary into a visual presentation with icons and charts.”

The clearer your style and purpose, the better the visual result.

  7. Review Generated Designs

Within seconds, Claude will generate a set of ready-to-edit Canva visuals. These will typically include layout suggestions, color accents, and font pairings that match your content type.

  8. Open and Edit in Canva

Press “Open in Canva.” This transfers your generated designs to Canva’s editor, where you can:

    • Adjust colors, logos, or fonts to match your brand

    • Add or remove icons and images

    • Refine text alignment or transitions for final polish

Note: If your document is long, ask Claude to summarize or extract highlights first — it makes the design cleaner and easier to follow.
