OpenAI just revealed that GPT-6 Astra designed a real hardware device in under a week. Two team members created a gadget for talking to Codex, without directly editing the AI-generated designs.
Details:
Astra defined the requirements, developed the device’s appearance, and designed the outer enclosure and internal structures that hold the components in place
It selected electrical components, designed the circuit board (PCB), created the user interface, and generated the firmware and software integrations needed to connect with Codex
A contract manufacturer produced a small batch of prototypes in under a month. Human reviews and revisions were still needed to address production limits, tolerances, and assembly details

Canva is facing a major shake-up as AI changes the design industry. Its restructuring affects 1,271 employees, or 22% of staff, amid slowing growth and rising competition from AI tools.
