Kontext AI Does Double Duty with Image Generation and Editing

Black Forest Labs, the German AI startup behind X's former Grok image features, has launched Flux.1 Kontext - a fresh suite of AI models that can both generate and edit images from text prompts with state-of-the-art results.

Details:

• Flux.1 Kontex [pro] supports multi-step image edits with consistent style, while [max] emphasizes speed and prompt accuracy. Both render up to 8x faster than rivals but can’t be used offline

• The launch challenges Google’s Imagen 4 and OpenAI’s ChatGPT image tool. Black Forest Labs, founded by ex-Stability AI staff, is growing its enterprise API offerings

• The playground provides 200 credits at no cost (enough for ~12 images). Kontex [dev] is in private beta. The company is valued at $1B, with backing from a16z, Brendan Iribe, and Garry Tan

Perplexity has launched Perplexity Labs for Pro users—a $20/month feature that creates spreadsheets, dashboards, reports, and interactive web apps. It marks a strategic step beyond search as the company intensifies its challenge to Google.

Details:

• Perplexity Labs allocates extended processing time—10 minutes or more—for complex tasks, using tools like web search, code execution, and visualizations to deliver in-depth results

• All outputs—charts, images, code files, and more—are stored in a dedicated tab, making it easy to preview and download everything in one place
