Meta And Google AI Guardrails Stripped In Minutes

A Financial Times investigation says Meta and Google’s open AI models can be “decensored” in minutes. The issue is not one bad prompt. Once model weights are public, safety controls can be removed and shared at scale.
Details:
FT and AI safety group Alice removed guardrails from Meta’s Llama 3.3 in under 10 minutes using a public GitHub tool, minimal code, and no specialist hardware. The changed model answered things it once refused
Google’s Gemma was affected too. FT says a modified Gemma 3 answered harmful bio, malware, and child safety related prompts. The tool creator also claimed Gemma 4 was stripped within 90 minutes
The creator said the tool has made 3,500+ decensored models with 13M downloads. Google called this a known open model challenge, while Meta declined to comment
Closed systems are harder to alter because weights stay private. But as open models get closer to frontier systems, release safety becomes the real AI race.

Uber Says AI Spending Is Getting Hard To Justify

Uber is running into a simple AI problem: usage is growing quicker than proof. Its COO says AI spending is getting harder to justify because heavy token use is not yet clearly turning into better customer features.
Details:
Uber burned through its 2026 Claude Code budget by April. The issue is not whether engineers are using AI. The issue is whether all that AI activity is producing useful, shipped products
Andrew Macdonald said there is still no clear link between more AI tokens and more consumer value. That matters because AI tools can feel cheap to users, while companies pay the real bill
Uber is still financially strong, with Q1 gross bookings up and operating income scaling. But the company is also using slower hiring to help offset rising AI costs inside business
This is the AI reality check: companies do not just need more AI usage. They need AI spend that clearly improves products, margins, or speed.
