Cognition, maker of AI coding agent Devin, has acquired Windsurf In a strategic move, Cognition announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire AI coding startup Windsurf—bringing its IP, product, and remaining team into its fold.

Details:

• Just days after Google secured Windsurf’s CEO, co-founder, and research leads, Cognition stepped in to acquire the rest of the 250-person team and core assets following the expiration of a $3 b OpenAI acquisition offer

• Windsurf had reached $82 m in annual recurring revenue, with enterprise ARR doubling quarter-over-quarter and a user base of at least 350 enterprise customers and hundreds of thousands of daily active users

• Cognition will maintain Windsurf’s AI IDE in the short term and gradually integrate its capabilities into Devin—combining agentic and IDE-style approaches to better compete with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cursor
