Meta Plans Massive AI Investment with Superintelligence Push

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a massive investment—hundreds of billions of dollars—toward building superintelligence, signaling one of the boldest moves yet in the AI race for talent and computing power.

Details:

  • Meta is building huge AI infrastructure, including data centers up to 5GW. The Prometheus cluster launches in 2026, with more “titan clusters” planned. AI spending jumps to $60–65B this year

  • It launched Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) after Llama 4 setbacks. The team includes Alexandr Wang, Nat Friedman, and Daniel Gross. Meta also invested $14.3B in Scale AI for a 49% stake

  • Zuckerberg is aggressively hiring top AI talent, offering up to $200M over four years to engineers from OpenAI, Google, and Apple. He aims to build "the most elite and talent-dense team"

Meta is going all-in on AI, using social media profits to chase superintelligence. With projects through 2030 and beyond, Zuckerberg signals a no-limit push to lead the AI race.

AI in Mental Health

Study Finds AI Therapy Chatbots Pose Significant Risks for Mental Health Support

A recent Stanford study warns that AI-powered therapy chatbots may pose “significant risks” to people with mental health conditions, highlighting troubling patterns of stigma and unsafe responses as these tools become more widely used.

Details:

  • Researchers tested five therapy chatbots in two experiments against human therapist standards. The first found more stigma toward alcohol dependence and schizophrenia than depression, with advanced AI showing similar bias as older models

  • The second used therapy transcripts to check responses to serious issues like suicidal thoughts. Some chatbots, including 7cups' Noni and Character AI's Therapist, missed subtle suicide cues and gave irrelevant answers

  • Led by Jared Moore and Nick Haber, the study will be presented at the ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency. Moore said "business as usual is not good enough" and more data won’t fix these safety issues

AI tools aren’t ready to replace human therapists but can support mental healthcare with tasks like billing, training, and helping patients journal.
