Meta's Use of User Data for AI Training
Meta, the company behind Instagram and Facebook, is using user data to train its AI models. Due to strict privacy laws in the UK and EU, Meta must disclose this and offer users an opt-out option.
Privacy Legislation and Opt-Out
European users are being notified about updates to Meta's Privacy Policy, effective June 26, 2024. Meta will use the "legitimate interests" clause to process data for AI development, but users can object and request data deletion.
Opting Out
European users can object to their data being used for AI training, and Meta seems to honor these requests automatically. However, users outside Europe are not being notified about these changes.

Siri's Next Chapter: Updates at WWDC 2024
Apple's Siri has struggled with contextual awareness, limiting its ability to engage in smooth conversations. However, significant updates are expected at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10 with the release of iOS 18.
Facing New Competition
Siri faces tough competition from virtual assistants like Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant, and OpenAI's GPT-4o, which have introduced advanced multimodal capabilities.
Multimodal Capabilities and Privacy
Apple is researching multimodal AI models like Ferret, which can understand and respond to what's on a phone screen.
Apple aims to enhance Siri while maintaining strong privacy standards by processing requests on-device.
Enhancements on the Horizon
Siri is rumored to integrate large language models for improved accuracy and sophistication. This could enable better handling of nuanced queries and complex tasks.
