OpenAI Introduces Parental Controls Following Tragic ChatGPT Incidents

Following devastating cases where ChatGPT failed to properly handle users in mental distress—including the tragic death of teenager Adam Raine and a fatal incident involving another user—OpenAI is implementing significant safety changes.
Details:
OpenAI will route conversations showing signs of distress to advanced models like GPT-5 and o3. These models spend more time analyzing context and resist harmful prompts. A real-time router detects conversation signals and switches models
Parental controls are rolling out within a month. Parents will be able to link accounts with teens, get alerts when distress is detected, and set age-appropriate rules. They can disable memory and chat history to prevent dependency and harmful patterns
OpenAI is starting a 120-day initiative with mental health experts, including specialists in eating disorders, substance use, and adolescent health. Through its Global Physician Network, the goal is to define safety priorities, design safeguards, and address flaws in models that reinforce harmful conversations
After tragedies like Adam Raine’s death after ChatGPT suggested methods and Stein-Erik Soelberg’s after it validated delusions, OpenAI says its measures fix safety failures while keeping AI widely available.

Anthropic Secures Massive 13 Billion Round, Valuation Hits 183B

Anthropic has raised a record-breaking 13 billion in Series F funding, pushing its valuation to 183 billion. The AI startup’s explosive enterprise growth positions it as a formidable rival to OpenAI in the rapidly moving artificial intelligence race.
Details:
The round was co-led by Iconiq, Fidelity, and Lightspeed, with backing from BlackRock, Blackstone, Coatue, Ontario Teachers’, and Qatar’s wealth fund. It marks a huge leap from Anthropic’s $3.5B raise in March 2025 at a $61.5B valuation, nearly tripling its worth in under a year
Anthropic’s revenue soared from $1B to $5B in 2025, serving 300,000+ business customers as large accounts grew 7x. Claude Code fueled much of this surge, hitting $500M in run-rate revenue
CEO Dario Amodei admitted unease about taking money from authoritarian-linked sovereign funds, saying he wasn’t “thrilled” but argued it’s hard to exclude “bad people” while competing with OpenAI and Cursor
The round cements Anthropic as one of the world’s most valuable AI firms, signaling record investor confidence and fueling enterprise growth, safety research, and global expansion.

How to Listen to Your Google Docs Instead of Reading Them

If reading long drafts makes your eyes glaze over, try listening instead. This tutorial walks you through Google Docs’ audio feature — from starting playback to changing voices and inserting an audio button your readers can use.
Open document
Start by opening the document you’d like to review in Google Docs. Make sure you’re on desktop, since this feature isn’t available on mobile yet.
Go to audio feature
From the top menu bar, go to Tools > Audio and select “Listen to this tab.” As soon as you tap, the default voice will begin reading your document aloud, starting from the very beginning.
Use floating audio toolbar
A small toolbar will appear at the bottom of your screen. From here, you can:
Pause or resume playback at any point
Scrub forward or backward through the audio
Adjust the playback speed (anywhere between 0.5x and 2x)
Change reading voice
In the same toolbar, press the three-dot “More options” button.
You’ll see a list of available voices, such as Narrator, Educator, Teacher, Persuader, Explainer, Coach, or Motivator.
Pick the one that best suits the tone you want for your document.
Insert audio button
From the toolbar, you also have the option to “Insert an audio button.” This adds a play button inside your Google Doc, allowing readers to listen to the content.
Customize audio button
After inserting it, hover over the button and tap the pencil icon. You can then edit its label, color, and size to match the style or purpose of your document.
Note: This feature is currently available only in English and may not be available in all countries.

OpenAI Prompt Optimizer

OpenAI has released a GPT-5 prompt optimizer (make sure you log in to OpenAI) for creators and teams. You can paste your prompts into it, and it will refine them, highlight potential weaknesses, suggest alternatives, and clearly explain the reasoning behind each change to help you achieve consistently better results.
-
In the screenshot, you can see a very detailed, refined prompt we received from the optimizer. The original prompt was:
"Write a compelling story-based Facebook ad (max 125 characters) for our [product], highlighting how it solves [specific problem]."
