OpenAI and Jony Ive Face Technical Hurdles on Secret AI Device

OpenAI and Apple design icon Jony Ive face major technical hurdles as they race to ship a hyped AI device next year. Despite a $6.5B deal and a star team of ex-Apple engineers, critical obstacles threaten their timeline.

Details:

  • The project aims to create a small, screenless personal assistant that understands sound and visuals from its surroundings. About the size of a smartphone with several cameras, it can sit on a desk or be carried around, staying “always on” to collect data and learn. OpenAI acquired Ive’s company io, bringing 20+ ex-Apple staff

  • The main challenge is computing power. Amazon and Google have strong systems for Alexa and Home, but OpenAI struggles to scale ChatGPT, making device rollout hard. It’s working with Chinese makers like Luxshare, though final assembly may happen elsewhere

  • Software is another hurdle. The team is shaping the assistant’s “personality” to sound natural but not overly agreeable or repetitive. Privacy and hardware limits make building this consumer-ready system even tougher

As OpenAI leverages its $500 billion valuation to justify expansion into hardware, the success of this device becomes crucial for proving the company can move beyond software.

Perplexity AI

Perplexity Removes Paywall From AI Browser in Direct Chrome Competition

Perplexity just opened its AI-powered Comet browser to everyone after months behind pricey subscriptions. The company is positioning this as a direct challenge to Google Chrome's dominance, promising to keep the browser available at no cost forever.

Details:

  • Comet reimagines web browsing by placing AI at the center instead of adding it on top. It combines Perplexity’s AI search tools with a built-in assistant that helps users browse, shop, and plan trips. Once limited to $200/month Max users and invitees, Comet makes its main features available to everyone

  • The company also introduced Comet Plus, a $5/month plan featuring curated news from outlets such as CNN, Fortune, Le Monde, and The Washington Post. It’s included with Perplexity Pro and Max, offering a service similar to Apple News Plus

  • Competition is growing. Google is integrating Gemini into Chrome, Arc is expanding its Dia assistant, and Opera has launched the AI Neon browser. Each aims to define the future of browsing in the AI era

This democratization of Comet could be the catalyst that finally disrupts Chrome's stranglehold on the browser market, especially as users increasingly expect AI assistance in their workflows.

How to Build Interactive Flashcards in ChatGPT for Self-Testing

Studying doesn’t have to be boring or overwhelming. With QuizGPT, ChatGPT can immediately create interactive flashcards from your chosen topic or uploaded materials. Here’s exactly how to do it.

  1. Open ChatGPT

Go to the ChatGPT website and make sure you’re logged into your account, or launch the mobile app on your device and ensure the app is updated.

  2. Choose right model

From the model selector, pick GPT-5 to ensure compatibility with QuizGPT.

  3. Decide on study method

    • If you want to test yourself on a general subject, prepare your topic in mind (e.g., Physics, World History, Economics).

    • If you want the flashcards based on your own material, get your files (like lecture slides, class notes, or handouts) ready to upload.

  4. Enter prompt

    Type this into ChatGPT:

"I want to test my knowledge of [TOPIC]. Quiz me with very challenging questions using QuizGPT."

  5. Upload material (optional but powerful)

If you prefer personalized flashcards, upload your

    • lecture slides

    • study notes

    • or course materials directly into ChatGPT.

The AI will use them as the source for your questions.

  6. Generate interactive flashcards

ChatGPT will create flashcards tailored to your topic or uploaded files. These will appear in an interactive format so you can test yourself step by step.

  7. Start quizzing yourself

Work through the flashcards, answer each question, and use them as active recall practice to reinforce learning.

Note: Ask for a mix of multiple-choice, true/false, and open-ended flashcards to challenge yourself in different ways.
