AI Rivalry

Two Tech Leaders and One Massive Feud Are Controlling the AI Revolution

The decade-long feud between OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei has grown beyond a Silicon Valley rivalry. What began in a shared San Francisco house in 2016 is increasingly shaping how AI rolls out across the world.

Details:

  • Despite helping build OpenAI, Dario Amodei left in 2020 to start Anthropic. The split came from disagreements over AI safety, selling AI to foreign governments, and internal power struggles with Sam Altman and Greg Brockman

  • Anthropic has since framed itself as the public-good alternative to OpenAI, with Amodei reportedly likening rivals to tobacco companies and its Super Bowl ad taking a subtle shot at OpenAI

  • The tension has since grown into a geopolitical clash. OpenAI won a classified Defense Department contract, while Anthropic sued Trump administration after being blocked from doing business with Pentagon

As both companies—valued at over $300 billion combined—race toward their initial public offerings, this deep-seated clash of egos and ethics shows no signs of cooling.

Elon Musk Loses Final xAI Founders Amid Massive Rebuild

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has officially lost the last of its original founding team. With a massive structural overhaul currently underway, this marks the end of the company's first era.

Details:

  • Ross Nordeen, who served as Musk's primary operational lieutenant, and Manuel Kroiss, the head of the pretraining team, departed this week, meaning all 11 of xAI’s original co-founders have exited the company

  • The departures come amid internal restructuring after xAI merged with SpaceX, bringing it under one corporate umbrella ahead of a highly anticipated multi‑trillion‑dollar SpaceX IPO

  • Musk has acknowledged the major shakeup, saying xAI wasn’t built correctly at first and is being rebuilt from the ground up to better compete with players like OpenAI and Anthropic

This leadership reset marks a pivotal moment for Musk’s AI ambitions, as xAI rebuilds its team and seeks to accelerate progress under close industry scrutiny.

How to Track Gmail Expenses Automatically Using Claude

Tracking subscriptions and recurring expenses by hand is slow and error‑prone. This tutorial shows how to use Claude for Chrome to scan Gmail and automatically log expenses in Google Sheets in minutes.

  1. Install Claude for Chrome

Install the Claude Chrome extension, sign in, and ensure it’s enabled. Claude works on browser tabs you explicitly allow.

  2. Set Up Expense

Create a fresh Google Sheet and add the following column headers:

    • Expense Title

    • Company

    • Amount

    • Date

    • Renewal Date

Once done, copy the Google Sheet link.

  3. Visit Gmail Inbox

Launch Gmail in a fresh Chrome tab and keep it active. There’s no need to manually search or filter emails—Claude will handle that.

  4. Connect Claude

Tap Extensions → Claude from the Chrome toolbar. Make sure the Gmail tab appears highlighted, confirming Claude can read and interact with it.

  5. Provide Clear Instruction

Use a direct and specific prompt so Claude knows exactly what to do. For example:

    Prompt:

“Scan my Gmail inbox for subscription or recurring expense emails from [Month, Year]. Extract the expense name, company, amount, date, and renewal details. Add each item as a new row in [Google Sheet link], and include a total at the bottom.”

  6. Allow Claude to Process

Claude will go through your inbox and populate the sheet automatically. This usually takes 10–15 minutes, depending on how many emails you have. If it stops early, just ask it to continue.

  7. Save Prompt for Reuse

To avoid repeating this setup every month, save the prompt as a shortcut:

    • Type / in Claude

    • Choose Create shortcut

    • Give it a clear name like “Monthly Expense Tracking

Note: If your inbox is large, ask Claude to process emails in smaller date ranges for better reliability.

Ultra-detailed vintage noir portrait from reference photo. Exact facial likeness (100–103% fidelity) — preserve identity, proportions, bone structure. 1940s–50s detective graphic novel style, black & white engraved ink. Fine cross-hatching, etching texture, forensic sketch rendering. Strong chiaroscuro with dramatic shadows and sharp highlights. Medium close-up, slight 3/4 angle, natural expression. Precise ink outlines, micro-detailing (skin texture, hair strands) in engraving style — realism over stylization. Background: retro detective dossier with technical diagrams, annotation marks, blueprint elements, halftone textures, aged paper grain, silkscreen imperfections. Palette: black & white with selective red and warm cream geometric accents. Intentional white negative space. 8K, print-ready, tactile analog feel. Noir atmosphere, archival illustration, master-level detail.
Negative prompt:
Distorted face, low resemblance, altered identity, cartoonish, exaggerated proportions, blurry/soft lines, low detail, messy cross-hatching, over-stylization, extra facial features, deformed anatomy.
