Bernie Sanders Wants a Permanent Ban on Superintelligent AI

Bernie Sanders has introduced legislation seeking a permanent U.S. ban on superintelligent AI and a temporary pause on advanced AI development, arguing that systems humans cannot control should not be allowed to advance.

Details:

  • The bill would ban developing AI that surpasses human intelligence, resists shutdown or threatens governments, while pausing advanced AI until federal safety rules are in place

  • It would create a cabinet-level AI regulator to monitor frontier models, remove dangerous abilities and enforce ban, with penalties of 20 years in prison and corporate shutdown

  • Sanders also wants international agreements, allied coordination and export controls to stop superintelligence worldwide. Rep. Greg Casar backs the proposal, but support in Congress is unclear

The proposal came the same day OpenAI launched Astra, which Greg Brockman framed as the start of the AGI era, intensifying the debate over AI limits.

How to Create a Faceless YouTube Channel With Higgsfield
