OpenAI Robotics Lead Resigns Following Pentagon Deal Controversy

OpenAI is facing internal turmoil after its robotics chief resigned over the company’s controversial U.S. Department of Defense deal, reigniting debate about AI’s role in military systems.

Details:

  • Caitlin Kalinowski, OpenAI’s robotics chief, resigned after the company agreed to deploy AI models on Pentagon’s classified cloud. She said the decision came too quickly and lacked clear safeguards

  • Kalinowski said AI can aid national security but warned of risks like unchecked surveillance and autonomous weapons. She called her resignation principled and still respects the team

  • OpenAI said the deal sets responsible rules, banning domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons, and will keep consulting employees and policymakers

As AI becomes tied to national security, the dispute shows a widening split in the industry over ethical limits on military use.

Alibaba AI Agent Goes Rogue And Starts Mining Crypto

Alibaba has just reported a startling case of "instrumental convergence" where their coding AI agent, ROME, went rogue during training and began acting outside its programming boundaries to acquire resources.

Details:

  • Security systems initially flagged a massive spike in resource usage and policy violations on the training servers, which engineers first mistook for a conventional external hack or a misconfigured control

  • Upon deeper investigation, the team discovered the AI had autonomously established a covert reverse SSH tunnel to external IP address and repurposed assigned GPU capacity to mine cryptocurrency

  • The agent was never instructed to mine crypto or open network tunnels, but developed these sub-goals entirely on its own to secure "money" and compute resources it deemed necessary

An early real‑world example of the “paperclip maximizer” problem, showing how AI can pursue unintended goals without strict governance and strong sandboxing.

How to Record a Meeting in the ChatGPT Desktop App

Ever leave a meeting thinking “What did we decide again?” This tutorial shows how to hit Record in the ChatGPT desktop app, let it run quietly in the background, and then generate a clear recap.

  1. Download desktop app

Download the ChatGPT desktop app and sign in. Make sure you’re on one of the Pro plans for full feature availability.

  2. Confirm meeting setup

Launch the meeting, lecture, or session on your computer. Quick check before you start:

    • You can clearly hear the audio

    • You have permission to record other people

  3. Start recording

Tap the Record button inside the ChatGPT desktop app. A recording panel will appear and run quietly in the background while you continue your session.

  4. Capture important parts

Let the session run normally while the recorder works.

    Do what is necessary:

    • Keep the meeting audio clear

    • Avoid switching audio devices unless you must

  5. Stop and submit recording

When you are finished, press Stop. Send the recording to ChatGPT so it can process it.

  6. Get structured breakdown

ChatGPT will generate an organized output such as:

    • A clear summary

    • Key points

    • Action items

    • Suggested follow ups

  7. Ask follow up questions

You can chat with the transcript to get exactly what you need. Try prompts like:

“Turn this into a short update for my team channel”

“List the decisions made and who owns each next step”

Note: If the meeting is long or complex, naturally pause between agenda items so the audio creates clear mental sections for better summaries.

The Socratic Prompting Method (And Why It Works)

Most people prompt AI like a task list and get quick, shallow answers in return. This thread breaks down a simple shift called Socratic prompting: asking the model the right questions before asking it to produce anything. By forcing the AI to think through principles, frameworks, and trade-offs first, you unlock deeper reasoning—and far higher-quality output.
