How to Generate Flowcharts and Mind Maps in ChatGPT
Most people use ChatGPT for writing or research — but it can also design visuals. You can create flowcharts, mind maps, and even sequence diagrams directly from your prompts.
Visit ChatGPT
Go to the ChatGPT website and sign in with your OpenAI account. Make sure you’re using the latest version.
Search for GPT
In the left sidebar, select Explore GPTs, search for Whimsical Diagrams, and open it. It creates flowcharts, sequence diagrams, and mind maps from your prompts.
Write Prompt
Describe exactly what you want to visualize.
Example prompts:
“Create a flowchart showing the steps of the employee onboarding process.”“Generate a sequence diagram for a user logging into a web app.”Tips for clarity:
Include key stages or relationships.
Mention the type (mind map, flowchart, sequence).
Review Generated Diagram
The GPT will return a structured diagram or map based on your prompt.
Depending on your input:
Mind maps show concept relationships.
Flowcharts visualize decision paths or processes.
Sequence diagrams illustrate system or user interactions.
Refine Using Mentions
You can also use Whimsical Diagrams GPT in any other ChatGPT chat.
Just type @Whimsical, select it from the dropdown, and write your prompt.
Edit and Finalize
If you want deeper customization—colors, layout, labels, or structure—ChatGPT will give you an option to open the file inside Whimsical.
From there you can:
Rearrange nodes and shapes
Add icons, connectors, or notes
Export or share the final diagram with your team
Note: Use short sentences when describing processes — long or complex phrasing can confuse the diagram generator.
