OpenAI Brings Advanced Code Generation to ChatGPT With Codex

OpenAI has launched Codex, its most advanced AI coding assistant, available in ChatGPT as a research preview. This tool aims to streamline development by automating tasks that typically take hours or days.

Details:

• Codex runs on codex-1, OpenAI's o3 model for software engineering. It writes cleaner code, follows instructions, and tests until it passes, all while connecting to GitHub repositories

• Available to ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, and Team subscribers, with rate limits to be introduced. OpenAI plans to expand to ChatGPT Plus and Edu users, competing with Claude Code and Gemini Code Assist

• It handles tasks like writing features, fixing bugs, and running tests in 1-30 minutes, letting users continue working. OpenAI uses it internally for repetitive tasks and documentation

Anthropic Admits Claude Made 'Embarrassing Mistake' in Legal Filing

Anthropic has admitted its Claude AI assistant made an "embarrassing and unintentional mistake" in a legal filing, adding incorrect information to a citation that made a genuine source appear fabricated.

Details:

• Anthropic used Claude to format citations in a legal case against music publishers. However, the AI made mistakes, like listing the wrong authors and title—though it got the year and link right

• The error appeared in data scientist Olivia Chen’s April 30th filing. Universal Music Group’s lawyer called it a “complete fabrication,” but Anthropic said the source was real and only the citation details were wrong

• This is one of several recent AI citation mishaps. A California judge recently scolded lawyers for submitting fake AI-generated materials, and a misinformation expert admitted ChatGPT hallucinated citations in a December filing

The case highlights AI reliability concerns in legal work. Anthropic's attorney, Ivana Dukanovic, said some errors were caught, but others slipped through, showing the risks of using AI without thorough human review.
