OpenAI Delays GPT-5.6 Public Release After White House Safety Push

OpenAI is delaying GPT-5.6's public release after the White House raised safety concerns. Instead of launching widely, the company may first make it available to approved partners under government oversight.
Details:
Sam Altman told employees the government will approve GPT-5.6 customers one by one during a preview period. If all goes well, OpenAI hopes to expand public availability within a couple of weeks
The administration worked closely with OpenAI before launch. The Office of the National Cyber Director and the Office of Science and Technology are said to have requested limited rollout
The move mirrors Anthropic's restricted release of Claude Mythos over misuse risks. These models can find software flaws, write malware, and automate cyberattacks quicker than humans
If accurate, GPT-5.6 could signal a fresh era where frontier AI models face government review and phased releases before reaching the general public.

Apple Raises Mac And iPad Prices As AI Demand Drives Chip Costs Higher

Apple just raised prices across Macs, iPads, HomePod and Vision Pro, not because of a redesign, but because the AI boom is making memory and storage chips much more expensive worldwide.
Details:
MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, up from $1,699. MacBook Neo is $699, $100 higher. iPad Air rose $150 to $749, while iPad Pro jumped $200 to $1,199
AI companies like Nvidia and AMD need huge amounts of memory and storage for data centers. This pushed suppliers like Micron to focus more on expensive data-center chips
Memory and storage prices have reportedly quadrupled in a year. Apple warned costs will keep hurting margins, and Microsoft already raised Surface prices in April
The message is clear: AI is not changing apps and tools. It is also changing supply chains, device pricing, and what consumers pay next.
